Text: Integrated Math 1: McGraw Hill and online videos
Course Description: In an effort to address the Common Core Curriculum, students will study the algebra topics of evaluating expressions, and solving linear and exponential equations. Students will graph linear equations and inequalities. Students will solve linear systems of equations and inequalities. Students will learn to simplify radicals and solve radical equations. Students will learn the geometry topics of lines and angles and their proofs, congruent triangles, and parallel lines. Students will learn how to compare data and make regression lines using basic statistics.
Daily Required Materials: Textbook, Spiral Notebook for math only,
TI-83 or TI-84 calculator…do not get one that has a higher number than this, pencils with erasers, red pen, and homework assignments. I do not take late homework. Bring your Chromebooks every day.
Homework: Each day you will be given a homework assignment that covers the material taught in class or that I want you to review. Sometimes, you will be teaching yourself how to do some problems. You will be expected to do all problems assigned. Completion means that all problems have been attempted and the step- by- step work is on the paper. A list of answers will NOT count as showing work. Most of the time this work is NOT graded, it is meant for practice. You need to be practicing all assigned work so that you are ready for tests and quizzes.
Mid Chapter Quiz Halfway through the chapter there will be a quiz worth 100 points. No notes will be allowed on this quiz. If units are lengthy there could be more than one quiz. Each one will be worth 100 points.
Chapter Test: At the end of each unit you will be given a 200- point test. You will not be allowed to use notes on this. It will go over two days and one day you will get to use calculator and one day you you will NOT be allowed to use a calculator. The reason behind this is that the SAT has a calculator part and a non calculator part and we need to practice for this.
Projects, Groupwork, and Classwork: Sometimes we will have a project that we will be doing. These will range usually between 50-200 points. Sometimes we will have a classwork or group work assignment. These tend to be between 5 and 25 points.
Video Learning: You will be doing video learning at times so please bring your chrome books for the days this might occur.
Group grade: Your group will be given a grade twice each quarter. These are 50 points each. You will get all fifty points if you are always working each day when you are supposed to, helping and asking questions of members of your group, discussing topics within your group, going over your homework within your group, and doing all group work assignments in a cooperative manner. If you refuse to help your group mates, never check your homework, refuse to be partners in a partner quiz, get caught cheating in your groups (copying a paper with no learning), or refuse to be paired with who Ms. Hagedorn pairs you with you will lose points. You must be an active member of your group. You will also lose points if you treat your group mates with disrespect. No one should be called names.
Grading Scale:
94-100A, 85-93 B, 74-84 C, 65-73 D, 64 and lower F.
You will need to take the semester exam if you do not achieve an 80%. There are also disciplinary reasons that finals need to be taken. See the handbook for these.
SAT reviews: In each section of the chapter, you will have an SAT review to do. These are on videos on my webpage. These will be five points each. You are expected to show your work and try your best on these. These will be handed in.
Extra Credit
I will not give any extra credit other than questions on a test or the bonus points that is offered to the entire class. There will be no individual extra credit when your grade is low.
Basic Guidelines for Success:
After School Help:
I will make appointments with you for assistance if you need small amounts of help. If you are needed daily help, you need to consider getting a tutor to help you often. I will be here after school most days for at least fifteen minutes. Please make an appointment with me for help if you plan to need more time than that. I am happy to help but you need an appointment.
Eligibility: You need to be aware that an eligibility issue for you does not make an emergency situation for me. I will not be rushing to grade tests, posttests, and other work so you can individually be eligible for your activities. You need to keep your grade up to the level your coach or the handbook requires. This is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY if you wish to play sports. I do not seek to keep anyone from playing sports, but I will not stay up all night to make you eligible. Good high school and collegiate athletes are expected to maintain good grades. It is better to come get help early than to expect immediate extra credit or assistance at the last minute.
If you are absent, you will be informed of the assignment you missed by email. Look for it at the end of each school day. If you miss a day when there is a quiz or a test, be prepared to take the the quiz or test on the day you return. You will do all make up work that is graded during class.
Final Note: This year I do not have a planning period. There is no class for you to come and see me in during the day. Also, please let your parents know that if they email me or call me during the day, it may take me some time to respond as I have no free time. I will NOT tutor students or talk to parents on my lunch time. This is the only free time I get all day and will be preparing for class, eating, and using the restroom during this time.
I am looking forward to a great year. I hope you are too.
